Cross stream samplers are perhaps the most accurate method to obtain a primary split of flowable solids or slurries in a process plant or mill. They work equally well on solids and slurries. They can sample from conveyor discharge points, slurry pipe discharge points, or in chutes where gravity conveys the material downward. They need to be installed or "engineered" to fit each application, since it involves placing the sampler in the stream of material to be sampled. Cutters are replaceable, the cutter travel is up to 48 inches, generally around 7.5 inches per second. A magnetic brake stops the cutter in the desired position. Intervals ranging from 2 minutes to 60 minutes is typical. Maintenance is easily performed and they are heavy duty to withstand the most demanding sampling application. Depending upon application and operation, they can have a margain of error of 1.0%.
